It's August, which means that it's time for the UK's biggest, and best, film festival: The Edinburgh International Film Festival, sponsored by FilmFour.

As usual, the festival programme is packed with choice goodies designed to get movie fans salivating. And even for those who can't make it up to Edinburgh itself, the festival provides a fascinating preview of some of the most interesting films that will be gracing cinema screens across the UK this autumn.

This year's gala films are a particularly fascinating and diverse bunch - from Gregor Jordan's Ned Kelly, to François Ozon's Swimming Pool (which was rated so highly at Cannes this year) and Mike Hodges' Croupier follow-up I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, which gets its UK premiere at Edinburgh. The sense of a New Europe that runs through the programme also stands out, with strong films tackling subjects such as terrorism and immigration.

As usual, we'll be bringing you regular updates from the festival, with full reviews of the most important films in the programme. Click here to check out our latest report.
