The eight members of the Orange FilmFour jury got together on January 21st to select the six entrants who will go on to the final stage of the Orange FilmFour Prize For Short Film, making their short films with funding and advice from FilmFour.

Jury members (from left to right): Robin Gutch, Kate Ogborn, Ayub Khan-Din, Kathy Burke, Tracey Emin, Alex Finlay, Gina Salter, Michael Winterbottom.

Twelve entries were presented to the jury and the daunting task of choosing the projects they favoured was under way. The jurors were passionate throughout the debate, and commented afterwards about the quality of work they had seen and how important they consider short films to be in developing a career in the film industry.

The jury cast their final votes.

Juror Ayub Khan-Din commented: "Competitions like this are important. It gives people the chance to start making films and, more importantly, it enables someone with no industry experience to compete on an equal level with someone who's had some form of training".

The six entrants chosen by the jury to go through to the final stage of the competition are:

ENTRANT SCRIPT
Mat Cottam Writer/Director of The Container
Jonathan Soper and Billy O'Brien Director and Writer of The Fishmonger
Patrik Bergh Writer/Director of Veronique
Faye Gilbert and Rachel Shadick Writer/Director and Producer of Hard Little Man
Jeff Povey Writer/Director of Blowing It
Miranda Bowen Writer/Director of Stagnate

A massive congratulations to the entrants of the six winning projects. And we'd like to add our congratulations too to the other six shortlisted entries who, despite their disappointment at not getting through to the final stage, should be proud to have got this far.
