Orange and film are good partners. The moving image is one of the most compelling forms of communication and the film industry is at the forefront of development in digital technology. Like Orange, it is continually seeking ways of improving its product and, as a result, further enhancing people's lives. Orange's relationship with British film started with the sponsorship of the British Academy Film Awards in 1998 and has grown to include the establishment of a prize to encourage undiscovered writing talent to flourish. The Orange Prize for Screenwriting has already resulted in one winning script being commissioned by Pathé Pictures. Frankie's Come Back, written by first time feature film writer Bernard Wright, is to be produced by Contagious Films and is due to go into production later this year. Without such initiatives, new writing talent would remain undiscovered and would not have the chance to enhance the growing reputation of emerging British film talent. The Orange FilmFour Prize for Short Film is designed to identify and nurture talent via the short film genre, giving writers and directors an easier opportunity to demonstrate their creative skills. It will give the chance for six writers/directors to showcase their work in the arena of short film-making, a hotbed for the discovery of new, emerging talent. This involvement embraces Orange's philosophy of investment in the future and will help to ensure that the future's bright for up and coming talent in the British film industry. |
