Look out for Vera Drake and a season from the makers of Spirited Away in the New Year

2006 also brings with it a new season featuring the finest work from those kings of Japanese animation, Studio Ghibli. Comprising eight premieres, the season looks set to delight both long-term fans of the animation house and those who've only recently become familiar with its output through films such as Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle.

Speaking of Miyazaki, Ghibli's grand master is the brains behind all but one of the featured films. In addition to classic works such as Princess Mononoke, <Castle In The Sky and The Castle Of Cagliostro, the season also includes cult favourites like the Harry Potter-esque Kiki's Delivery Service and Porco Rosso, the story of a hot-shot pilot who just happens to have the head of a pig.

The Ghibli season also features the British premiere of Little Norse Prince, Isao Takahata's groundbreaking 1960s animation which gave Miyazaki his first taste of feature-length animation, paving the way for later acclaimed work like My Neighbour Totoro and NausicaƤ Of The Valley Of The Wind, which also show on FilmFour this January.
