The lads return to England full of war stories, but shaken by the experience. Iraq comes back to haunt them when Shane’s jilted girlfriend, Shelley, takes the photos to the police. The story hits the press and Shane and Treacle become the most reviled men in Britain. The army calls them ‘rotten apples’, acting independently. Guilt-ridden and abandoned the pressure is too much for Treacle. Shane, however, is determined to stay loyal to "his army". He is left with the momentous decision whether to keep his secrets or explosively have his day in court, and tell the truth about the events of that fateful night.
The Mark Of Cain will air on Channel 4 on 5 April 2007 and is out on DVD from Monday 9 April.
