Win Mark Of Cain DVDs

We are giving away copies of this award-winning drama about British involvement in Iraq.

Shane Gulliver and Mark Tate are two ordinary 18 year-olds serving in the British Army in Iraq, where the platoon is struggling to maintain the uneasy peace. When their popular company captain, Godber, is killed on patrol by a roadside bomb, morale in the platoon hits rock bottom. Acting on orders, they round up several suspects from house-to-house searches. That night feelings at the camp are running high and as the chain of command is weakened, events spiral out of control. Iraqi detainees are mistreated at the hands of the soldiers; de-sensitised by violence and encouraged by their mates. Shane and Treacle not only participate, but take photographs of themselves with the detainees as souvenirs.

The lads return to England full of war stories, but shaken by the experience. Iraq comes back to haunt them when Shane’s jilted girlfriend, Shelley, takes the photos to the police. The story hits the press and Shane and Treacle become the most reviled men in Britain. The army calls them ‘rotten apples’, acting independently. Guilt-ridden and abandoned the pressure is too much for Treacle. Shane, however, is determined to stay loyal to "his army". He is left with the momentous decision whether to keep his secrets or explosively have his day in court, and tell the truth about the events of that fateful night.

The Mark Of Cain will air on Channel 4 on 5 April 2007 and is out on DVD from Monday 9 April.
