Keyhole stomach repair › Meet the team
The core surgical team at Addenbrooke's Hospital consisted of Mr Hardwick and six other people, all with highly specialised roles.
Richard Hardwick: Surgeon
Richard Hardwick is an upper gastrointestinal surgeon at Addenbrooke's Hospital, and lead clinician for upper gastrointestinal cancer at the Cambridge Oesophagogastric Centre.
Yuk Man Kan: Registrar
Yuk Man assisted Mr Hardwick with the surgery. One of his key roles was to operate the laparoscope (camera), which crucially allowed Mr Hardwick to see what he was doing. Yuk Man also closed up the incisions once the surgery was complete.
Kevin Gunning: Anaesthetist
Kevin put Susan to sleep and looked after her throughout the surgery and afterwards. He managed her pain and made sure she was safe at all times. Kevin also administered anti-sickness drugs in addition to normal pain relief drugs.

Edna Kouzel: Scrub Nurse
Edna was responsible for preparing and checking all the instruments that Mr Hardwick needed for the procedure. During the operation, she was scrubbed up and next to Mr Hardwick, ready to hand him instruments.

Bibi Toonah: Circulating nurse
Bibi was not scrubbed up so that she could leave the room to collect instruments or any other equipment or staff were they needed.
Claire Beecham: Operating Department Practitioner (ODP)
Claire worked in the anaesthetic room, assisting the anaesthetist with the preparation of drugs and other tasks such as positioning Susan correctly for the operation.
Gemma Claudio: Nurse
Gemma is a nurse who joined Mr Hardwick's surgical team.
