The core surgical team at Southampton General Hospital consisted of Mr Grundy and eight other people, all with highly specialised roles.

Paul Grundy: SurgeonPaul Grundy: Surgeon

Mr Paul Grundy is a consultant neurosurgeon at the Wessex Neurological Centre at Southampton General Hospital. A leading light of neurosurgery in the UK, Mr Grundy is responsible for developing the use of awake craniotomy for brain tumours.

Ryan Waters: RegistrarRyan Waters: Registrar

Ryan is a specialist registrar in neurosurgery. He is training to be a neurosurgeon and assisted Mr Grundy with the operation.

Crispin Weidmann: AnaesthetistCrispin Weidmann: Anaesthetist

Crispin gave Peter intravenous sedation and monitored him throughout the operation to prevent pain and anxiety. He also tested Peter's speech.

John assisted the anaesthetist with all of his roles.

Ronilo was scrubbed up in sterile gear and was responsible for preparing and checking the surgical instruments.

Coral was not scrubbed up so she could leave the operating room to collect instruments or any other equipment.

Sara Baker: Recovery Nurse

Sara looked after Peter in the recovery area immediately after surgery.

Lou looked after Peter in the recovery area immediately after surgery.
