Detailed Biographes:
Vicky Hall
Lindsay
Vicky Hall’s character Lindsay made quite an impression in
the last series. With her blunt approach and confidence she is able
to outwit any of her colleagues and she’s certainly not afraid
to offend. Vicky says: “Lindsay is a fantastic character to
play – she’s completely comfortable with who she is,
she’s sharp and fairly cynical. To be honest, she could probably
be a really good teacher, if only she could be arsed.”
It’s a new term, and it’s a new school. Summerdown
has merged with another school in the area and there’s more
than a hint of first day nerves as our teachers arrive. “We
filmed this series at a different school so the nerves were genuine,
plus it was quite weird because in the first couple of weeks it
was still a working school and there were kids taking their exams
while we were filming. “
In the first episode there is quite a lot of conflict between the
existing teachers and the new arrivals. “Because we have merged
with another school, we have suddenly become the newcomers. And
the existing teachers at the new Wattkins School don’t look
happy to see us, particularly two of the teachers, Ben (Mathew Horne)
and Damian (Daon Broni), who seem to have taken a vow of silence
rather than make conversation. But Lindsay doesn’t take something
like that personally, and instead it becomes a bit of a challenge
to make them speak to her.”
In the new series, Lindsay again shares a flat with the vain, self-centred
Penny (Tamzin Malleson). “Penny is everything that Lindsay
isn’t, which makes for a fantastic dynamic. Lindsay won’t
tolerate Penny’s excesses and isn’t afraid to pull her
up on her behaviour. And in return, Penny plays on Lindsay’s
weaknesses. For example, one of the episodes sees Lindsay become
totally, irrationally, obsessed by food and Penny wastes no time
in taunting her. Obviously, that’s the other fantastic thing
about playing Lindsay - there’s no chance of anyone asking
me to shed a few pounds for the role.”
The role of Lindsay in Teachers was Vicky’s big break. She
also recently appeared in BBC3’s Grease Monkeys and has previously
had roles in Doctors, Casualty, The Bill, Catherine Cookson’s
The Secret and The Round Tower and Crocodile Shoes. Her first TV
role was as Lesley in the fourth series of Byker Grove alongside
Ant & Dec, Donna Air and Jill Halfpenny. Her theatre credits
include Miss Julie, Live Like Pigs, Into the Woods, Dangerous Liaisons,
The Wizard of Oz and Romeo and Juliet.
