Daon Broni
Damien
Daon Broni plays the deeply cynical Damien, who teaches Food Technology
at Wattkins Comp. He lives with fellow teachers Ben (Mathew Horne)
and Ewan (Lee Williams), but runs rings round them – mainly
because he’s sharper and more intelligent than the other two.
“Damien is laid back, witty and has a cynical outlook on life.
He’s an observer rather than a player, but shows a vulnerable
side at certain times. Despite the cool exterior, there are some
situations that make Damien quite flustered.”
Damien instigates the frosty reception when Penny (Tamzin Malleson),
Lindsay (Vicky Hall) and the rest of the Summerdown freaks arrive
at their new school. He takes an instant dislike to them all before
even speaking to them – who would he want to speak to anyway…
the fat bloke in the wig, the fat girl, the blonde one that isn’t
fat… saves time if he just doesn’t bother.
The character of Damien is Daon’s first lead television role.
“It was nerve wracking to be joining a show with such a cult
following, but a great challenge. It helped that there were three
new characters and we were all starting at the same point in the
show. Also, the school was new for all the cast.”
Damien takes great pleasure in winding people up, especially Ben,
who irritates him on every level. “The three boys are very
different characters, but they compliment each others’ inadequacies.”
For all Damien’s sharp wit, he doesn’t seem to have
much success with women. Unlike Ewan, who, without even trying,
seems to have a constant stream of admirers throwing themselves
at him. This is Damien’s Achilles heel.
Daon Broni has previously appeared in Servants, Eyes Down and Casualty
for the BBC and ITV1’s The Bill.
