Top Tips
Healthy foods are not always what they seem, here's a few nutritional nightmares Gillian McKeith would like us all to watch out for, and some top tips on how to even the balance:
The bad news
Gillian says:
- Fruit flavoured drinks can legally have the word juice in the name even if they contain as little as 1% pure juice.
- A tin of baked beans may contain four teaspoons of sugar, almost as much as a chocolate bar.
- Microwaves may be convenient, but Gillian is not a fan since cooking your vegetables this way may destroy much of the vitamin C content.
- The outer leaves of some intensively grown lettuces should be thrown away because they can contain so much pesticide.
- Cheap processed meat can include some gruesome ingredients, including gristle, eyelid, skin and cheek.
The good news
Gillian says:
- Eat when you're calm. The body can't digest food properly if we are upset or have just had an argument.
- Drink a glass of warm water in the morning and evening to cleanse mucus [yes mucus!] from your system.
- Tepid or air temperature food and drinks are best. Ice-cold drinks weaken the organs whereas piping hot food can cause gum problems and degrade your tastebuds.
- Eat your last meal of the day at least a couple of hours before bedtime. Going to bed on a full stomach is bad for the digestive organs, heart and liver - and your libido!
