What Is Wrong With Our Favourite Treats?

Top Tips
Most people think there's nothing wrong with a regular curry, and what could be more British than fish and chips by the seaside? Well, if Gillian McKeith has her way the nation may well be turning their backs on this fatty fodder in favour of exotic foods such as kumquats, kelp and black turtle beans.
So just what is wrong with our favourite treats? Too much and they make us fat, but that's just the start of the problem. Gillian breaks down just why she hates the food we love.
- A typical takeaway chicken tikka masala can contain 1/2 of a block of lard and an astonishing 14 teaspoons of sugar! An unhealthy diet has been linked to PMS, food cravings and anxiety.
- The fat attack gets even worse when we look at fish and chips. Believe it or not, along with the potatoes and fish we could be swallowing the equivalent of 1/2 of a block of lard. This British favourite represents the kind of high fat, high salt diet that is linked to an increased risk of coronary heart disease.
- A dinner consisting of a large burger, with a side of fries and cola can amount to 1300 calories, which is bad news if you want breakfast and lunch as well because you're just chomped through more than half your recommended daily intake. Normal daily average calorie intake for men is 2550 and for woman is 1940.
- Just how sweet do you like your pizza? It may sound like a savoury option, but Gillian points out that a pizza can contain around 31 teaspoons of sugar. And yes, at 1/3 of a block of lard it's hardly a low fat option either. Many experts believe than an unhealthy diet can lead to a low sex drive and even infertility.

- The potential problems from all this sugar and lard range from diabetes to heart disease. By pointing out the hidden dangers, Gillian is hoping that all that comfort food starts to look anything but comforting!
