Episode 9 – Aimee and Karen Scriven

This week Gillian meets Aimee and Karen Scriven from Norfolk. 20-year-old Aimee, who is 17 ½ stone, was secretly nominated for the McKeith treatment by her mum, Karen, who is desperate to help her. At 15 ½ stone herself, Karen gets more help than she bargained for as Gillian sets both mother as well as daughter firmly in her sights.

Karen and Aimee’s diet consists of takeaways and super-size potions. On average Aimee packs away 18000 calories a week, that’s 5000 more than the recommended amount, and her 20-year-old body is already starting to show the strain of carrying so much extra weight.

Aimee suffers from polycystic ovaries; a condition worsened by excess weight, and has not had a period for years. Mum Karen complains of raging PMT, a condition in evidence when she has a pre-menstrual rant at Gillian when confronted with her daughter’s bad food table.

Scrivens
Both mother and daughter make a good start on the new diet but after a couple of weeks, Karen is feeling low, so to give them a push in the right direction, Gillian takes her and Aimee to a boxing class where they can exercise whilst venting some of their frustration.

They get back on course for a while, but then, in week five, Karen has a sneaky glass of wine and Aimee eats some bread. Gillian is furious and to stop them cheating again reveals a life-size cardboard cut out of how she predicts Aimee will look in five years time, bearing a further five stones.

After the full eight weeks, both Karen and Aimee are glowing and have lost two stone each. Aimee has lost eight inches from her waist and has noticed a reduction in her polycystic ovary syndrome symptoms. Karen’s lost six inches from her waist and is feeling calmer. Gillian is delighted, and despite the tough start, they are all overjoyed with the results.
