This week Gillian meets John Harrison, 29, from Ashton-under-Lyme. He lives with his wife Rehka and their 10-month-old son, Jamyn. At 6’6” and 27 stone, John is almost 4 times the diminutive Ms McKeith’s own weight and is the biggest man she has ever had to grapple with.
John was nominated to take part in the show by his worried wife Rehka who has become increasingly distressed about her husband’s expanding girth.
At one of his work sites, Gillian presents John with all the food he has consumed in a week, which includes 10 sausages, eight fried eggs, six pies and 12 chicken nuggets - but no sign of any fresh fruits or vegetables. Gillian tells John he eats a diet for death and is not surprised he suffers from high cholesterol, heartburn and headaches.
To further enforce how serious John’s weight problem is, Gillian takes him to a pie shop and shows him 11 stone in pies, which equals the excess weight he is carrying. He is shocked at the sight and admits he has not felt healthy since he was a teenager. Rehka is moved to tears and John vows to lose weight.
Gillian replaces John’s take-aways, pies and fry-ups with fresh fruit, vegetables and fish. Whilst his mates at work continue to scoff burgers and chips, John munches salads and sips juices. To Gillian’s delight John lives by a park perfect for John to walk around carrying his son, giving them some quality time whilst he burns some calories.
After just eight weeks, John has lost an amazing four stone and eight and a half inches from his waist. His skin has cleared and radiates with health. Rehka is really pleased with the results. He looks great and is sleeping much better. Gillian is delighted at how fabulous he looks and thinks he is a great role model for his son.
