Episode 14 - Dawn Bromley

This week, we meet 29-year-old Dawn Bromley who lives with her mother and sister in Surrey. Dawn loves chips, chips and more chips and unsurprisingly her fatty diet and sluggish lifestyle have left her five stone overweight. Her mother, Nicky, cannot stand by and watch her 15 ½ stone daughter hit 30, obese and deflated, so she’s resorted to secretly nominating her for the McKeith treatment.

Gillian gives Dawn a literal wake-up call and surprises her in bed at 11am. Shocked, Dawn crawls out of her bed to embark on the regime. She’s an inactive and fat, 5ft 4, travel agent who needs help. In just one week, fat loving Dawn’s munchies include ten portions of chips, 23 onion rings, ten packets of crisps and six sandwiches, despite her sister and mum opting for healthier options.

It’s not just the food that’s a problem for Dawn: she never exercises and instead spends all her free time watching telly and lounging about. Dawn’s sister finds her volatile and recalls occasions where Dawn has erupted when she hasn’t been able to find her favourite treats.

Dawn’s fatty diet is low in B vitamins and high in saturated fats so Gillian introduces her to nutrient rich fresh fruits, vegetables, white meats, complex carbohydrates and exercise before every meal, to increase metabolism.

Dawn struggles through week one. She hates the new foods and is missing crisps and sandwiches. By week two, she gives in to temptation and has to admit to eating both. Obviously annoyed, Gillian talks her round and re-emphasises the importance of sticking to the regime, including the preparation, which she has been leaving to her mum so far. Gillian encourages her to put the extra effort in and, as a treat, gives her a recipe for vegetable crisps to replace the snack she craves so much.

After the full eight weeks, Dawn has lost an impressive 1½ stone and dropped from a size 22 to an 18. She looks radiant and is full of energy. But, it’s not just Dawn who’s benefited - Nicky has lost 1 stone too. They are both overjoyed and look forward to continuing with the regime to continue getting into shape.
