You Are What You Eat
Gillian is not going to let Irene get away with this unhealthy lifestyle any longer and surprises Irene at the train station ticket office where she works. Irene is speechless and learns that her friend, Debs, is responsible for the McKeith invasion.

To make Irene aware of how appalling her diet has become Gillian confronts her with all the food she has eaten in a week. Irene is horrified at the sight of all the junk which includes five croissants with melted cheese and two with tuna mayonnaise, 15 spare ribs, 13 cans of diet cola, and eight cheese & ham sandwiches. It is not just the food in Irene’s diary that is concerning, but the alcohol too. It contains 84 units; six times the recommended maximum weekly limit for women. In just one week, Irene downed seven vodka, lime and sodas, seven whisky, lime and lemonades, six pints of lager, one bottle of bitter, and a staggering 18 pints of cider.

It is time for change so Gillian creates an eight-week regime for Irene. Instead of fatty processed foods and pints of beer and cider she prescribes fresh fruit and vegetables, beans, pulses and oily fish. To increase the amount of exercise in Irene’s life Gillian takes her along to a line dancing class. Just one hour of line dancing burns more than a 30-minute vigorous jog and much more fun is had in the process.

After two months Irene is a changed woman, glowing with confidence and health. She has lost almost three stone, dropped three dress sizes and lost an amazing 10 inches from her waist - so much that her work trousers will not stay up. Gillian is thrilled with the difference in Irene, and Debs declares she has never seen her friend looking better.
