Episode 8 - Nicholas Hughes

Nick is a 19 1/2 stone single man living in Leeds and enjoys nothing more than pizzas and fry-ups and doesn't think twice about consuming an entire Shepherd's Pie in one sitting, by himself.

Although Nick's friends see him as a big bloke with a personality to match, his weight does sometimes depress him. Motivated by his upcoming fortieth birthday, he finally feels ready to tackle his appalling diet with the help of Gillian McKeith.

Nick's friends regularly come round to his house for tea and a constant supply of biscuits. He also meets his mates at the pub where he'll often end up binge drinking. The booze has proved to be a double-edged sword; the late night feasts that follow it, and the fry-up or cheese on toast the next morning. In Gillian's eyes it's a recipe for disaster.

After undergoing blood analysis at the lab, it is clearly apparent that Nick is lacking in many nutrients including essential fatty acids. His massive calorie count is made up of sugar and fat with hardly a vegetable in sight. As a result of his bad eating habits, Nick suffers from bad breath due to his body's inability to digest the junk food, breathlessness and lack of energy.

Gillian puts Nick on an eight week eating plan centred on all the food he normally rejects, and swaps his sugar soaked booze for healthier options. After two months of fresh leafy greens, fruit, exotic grains, vegetable juices and lots of walks in the park with his dog, the changes are astounding and Gillian is delighted.

Nick has lost loads of weight, 4 stone in fact and dropped 3 clothes sizes. He now has sweet scented breath, endless supplies of energy and no more breathlessness. He has changed the way he feels about food and himself and is ready to move forward and change his lifestyle forever.
