Episode 7 - Sandra and Simon Fowle
Sandra and Simon Fowle live in Oxfordshire with their two teenage sons and 3-year-old twins, India and Fergus. A busy working Mum, who spends all day chasing after the twins, working nights and snacking at very odd times of the day, Sandra is morbidly obese. This has a lot to do to her self-confessed butter addiction, as Gillian kindly puts it - she has a 'fat tooth'! It has got so bad that on average Sandra gets through half a tub of butter a day. If she continues her appalling eating habits there is a chance that she might not live to see her twins grow up. Enter Gillian McKeith who is here to kick out her bad foods and kick start her new healthier lifestyle before it is too late.
Gillian discovers that the family relies on fatty snacks and coffee to get them through the day, often skipping a decent breakfast or lunch. Sandra weighs in at a massive 20 stone, some of which is due to her husband making 'delicious', sugary fudge and homemade jam and also baking white bread everyday which - of course - Sandra smothers with butter.
Sandra endures a range of health problems from headaches and PMT, to thinning hair and very low energy levels. Gillian firmly believes that these problems are linked to her poor diet and sets about making some major changes.
Gillian's eating plan for Sandra and the family includes fixed meals to regulate their sugar levels and plenty of fresh vegetables, fruits and grains. Chocolate, white bread and crisps are all on the forbidden list.
It's clear that they've been paying attention when Gillian calls around at the end of eight weeks. Sandra, the butter lover, has lost 2 stone, has stacks more energy, her hair is stronger and glossier and her skin is glowing. Simon, who kept up the regime to support his wife, has successfully lost 2 1/2 stone, feels much less bloated and is full of energy. They definitely won't be going back to their bad habits. This was the kick-start they needed and from hereon in, the sky's the limit.
