Episode 4 - The Hobday Family
Carl and Michelle Hobday recently moved to Devon, with their four children. Like a lot of families, the Hobdays are on a tight budget but seem to blow it all on the wrong foods which are badly effecting their health.
They are fry-up and chip fanatics and so the deep fat fryer rarely gets a night off. When they do give it a rest it's straight down to the local takeaway where the family spend on average £80 a week. To make matters worse, each month they guzzle their way through a staggering 52 loaves of bowel-bunging white bread and an astonishing 30 kilos of cheap processed meat.
With all this overeating, it's not surprising that Carl is now 17 stone, and Michelle tips the scales at over 21 stone. At this weight, Michelle has never been able to fit into the size 20 satin pyjamas her husband bought her five years ago!
While they're not happy about what's on the outside, it's what's going on inside that is really worrying Gillian McKeith. Carl is often fatigued and has problems with his legs, while Michelle is constantly tired, gets headaches and has difficulty even walking up stairs.
While Carl and Michelle are loving parents, Gillian is quick to take them to task over the problems the family's eating habits are causing the kids. "How can you feed this slop to your children...its food abuse!"
Although Rhys is only 10, he wears men's size medium and has a tough time at school because of his size. Chloe is only 8 but wears clothes for 15 year-olds. However with Rhys eating as many crisps as his Mum, and Chloe eating two chocolate bars a day, something has to change.
Gillian puts the family on a strict eight-week diet. No more takeaways, no more crisps and much to Michelle's horror, no more chocolate.
Eight weeks on and the entire family are bursting with energy and have a new zest for life.
Michelle has lost two stone and waved goodbye to her headaches and tiredness. Rhys is two stone lighter and has dropped two waist sizes and both Carl and Chloe have lost 1 1/2 stone.
Gillian's food plan has clearly been a success. Chick pea burgers, healthy smoothies and pitta pockets have been given the thumbs up and they all agree that they are going to stick to the plan.
