Episode 3 - Joanne Rusbridge

At 30 years old Joanne Rusbridge is hitting her midlife crisis early. She weighs in at 22 stone and struggles to fit into a size 30 dress, her young family of three very active boys run her ragged as she simply doesn't have the energy to keep up with them.

She desperately wants to change, but she'll need some radical help if her dream of playing football with her children is to become a reality. Luckily straight talking holistic nutritionist Gillian McKeith is happy to oblige. Gillian McKeith believes that in 8 weeks she can wean Joanne off the killer grub and set her up for a longer and healthier life.

Joanne's food heaven is Gillian's idea of a nutritional nightmare. She fuels up for the school run with a fried breakfast, and refuels with two hotdogs when she picks the kids up later. In between she will eat a whole packet of biscuits and she washes it all down with around 40 cans of cola a week. In her daily fry up alone, she consumes the entire recommended fat allowance for a family of four! With a diet this full of preservatives and sugar, it's no surprise to Gillian that Joanne is always tired and would sleep all day if she could. Her body is severely lacking in any nutrients and in the long-run, is at risk of both diabetes and heart disease.

Gillian sends some of Joanne's blood to the lab for analysis and discovers that she is lacking in zinc and that her body is stripped of the vitality- boosting vitamin, B1. So, Joanne is prescribed yet more food! However this time she's forbidden sugar laden soft-drinks and instead must get her sweet fix from fruit only. She must also spend the next eight weeks forgoing fatty treats in favour of nutrient-rich leafy greens and vegetables.

After 56 days of an endless supply of fruits, beans and seeds, Joanne's worst nightmare of consuming "fresh fayre" comes to an end. Was it worth it?

Having lost 2 stone and dropped 6 dress sizes, Joanne is glowing with health and has lots of energy. Her dream to kick a ball around in the park with her children becomes a reality but can she stick to the plan? The answer is a resounding yes.

She can finally ditch her black wardrobe and start buying the fashionable clothes that she has always wanted. She is fast becoming the 'new Joanne' the woman that she always knew was hiding away inside her.
