Before Shipwrecked
What attracted you to spend five months on a desert island?
I wanted to out-do everyone who had bored me with tales of their travels.
What were you doing before you arrived on the Island?
I was a journalism student and founding father of my own sport called ‘Buttoneering'.
What did your friends and family think of you doing it?
My family was supportive, but some friends had reservations - which is sensible when you consider that I didn't go on holiday because sand annoys me too much.
What do you think you will achieve by doing it?
I'd like to undergo a voyage of self-discovery. Failing that, I'd like a tan.
What's your longest period away from home prior to Shipwrecked?
A few months but with regular contact with my nearest and dearest.
What did you think about having to spend so long away from home with complete strangers?
I thought it was a good opportunity to be removed from my comfort zone and meet some interesting people.
What's your worst habit?
Singing loudly and tunelessly with little consideration for those around me. Some would call me a gossip but I see that more as an asset to be honest.
What's your best feature?
My bouffant!
