Kev's mum commits suicide on his birthday. He is shocked by the news and distraught at not even receiving so much as a birthday card. His wife Roxy, fresh out of prison, attends his mother's funeral. Roxy had been sending his mother letters while in prison detailing all her deluded fantasies about Kev.
Veronica is unable to control her jealousy when Roxy dances with Kevin in the pub after the funeral and is kicked out when they both get into a fight. Veronica wakes in the morning to find Kev missing. She goes straight to his mother’s flat thinking Kev has turned it into a bachelor pad only to be confronted by Roxy and Kev naked in bed.
Heartbroken, Veronica finishes their relationship and swiftly kicks him out of the house. Roxy tells Kev that they had a child together nine years ago that she gave up for adoption. Kev is overwhelmed by the prospect of fatherhood having been previously told he was infertile.
Kev isn’t sure if she is telling the truth and when he spurns her advances, Roxy goes around to Veronica’s house and threatens to kill her with a kitchen knife. Kev turns up just in time.
Veronica, about to flee to Amsterdam to see Fiona, realises that she can't leave him after receiving a letter offering them IVF treatment.
