DENISE WELCH IN TURKEY!
Istanbul is the only city in the world which embraces two continents, one arm reaching out into Asia, the other into Europe.
The former capital of three successive empires - Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman - the city is a fascinating mixture of past and present, old and new, modern and traditional. The museums, churches, palaces, mosques and bazaars, and the sights of natural beauty seem inexhaustible. As you recline on the shores of the Bosphorus at sunset contemplating the red evening light reflected in the windows and slender minarets on the opposite shore you understand, suddenly and profoundly, why so many centuries ago settlers chose to build on this remarkable site.

NAOMI CLEAVER!
Naomi says overall she enjoyed the book, but felt it was obviously a first time novel because the language was quite ‘self conscious’ in places.
“I think it was a beautifully written book, but I wanted a bit more of a story and was racing through the last few pages wanting all the loose ends tied up. The narrative was obviously a vehicle for the author’s writing, and was obviously a first novel.
It was a good story of a child thrust into a very adult world and I found the language very poetic and descriptive. However I just wondered whether an eight year-old would be able to have such complex relationships with adults like Daniel and Billy. In reality I find it hard to believe an eight year-old would spend so much time with a 24 year-old.
I think she handled the issue of a child’s sense of isolation and alienation very well and how a child adapts to new surroundings.
The descriptions of Wales were very evocative and it did make me think why am I stuck in a stuffy office? I just wanted to kick off my shoes and lie down in a field. I can’t wait for the author’s second book, which I think will be quite a different read.
Eve Green is a real girls’ book and I can’t imagine my husband reading it.”
