Poker Nations Cup - Programme 8 Match Report

Programme 8

The final continued with the Dutch captain Marcel Luske deciding to join the action, substituting himself for Thierry Van den Berg. Then Sweden's Johan Storakers won a massive pot when his AA held up against Denmark's Mads Andersen's QQ. This left Denmark very short stacked and captain Theo Jorgensen immediately replaced the unlucky Andersen with Lars Bonding. However, Bonding couldn't halt the slide and Denmark were eliminated in fifth place.

At this point, Great Britain captain, Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott, made his final substitution selecting himself to replace John Kabbaj. Antonio Esfandiari continued to improve the USA's position with some excellent bluffs but at the end of Level 5, his captain Robert Williamson III had to make a compulsory substitution and chose Clonie Gowen as his third player.

Gowen made an immediate impact when she found herself all-in holding 66 against Luske's A10. A six came on the flop winning the USA a big pot and eliminating Holland in fourth place. Unbelievably, the USA captain Williamson decided to replace Gowen at this point and gave himself the responsibility of trying to clinch the trophy for the USA. Bo Sehlstedt, the Swedish captain, decided it was time to put in his anchor man too and Anders Henriksson was sent in to replace Storakers.

At the end of the programme the remaining three nations – Great Britain, Sweden and the USA – were pretty level in chips and the destiny of the trophy and $100,000 first prize was very much still up in the air.
