Poker Nations Cup - Programme 7 Match Report

Programme 7

After an outstanding performance in the heats, it was the defending champions Great Britain who began the final with a big chip lead. The six captains chose the following players to start the final:

Joe Beevers ( GB )
Phil Laak ( USA )
Jorryt Van Hoof ( HOL )
Phillip Marmorstein ( GER )
Nicolai Vivet ( DEN )
Mats Rahmn ( SWE )

The play was predictably tight early on until Holland won a very big pot against Germany when both teams made a full house. This left Germany very low on chips and captain Michael Keiner immediately made a substitution putting in online player Simon Munz. However, their luck didn't change and Munz was eliminated by Rahmn of Sweden. Germany were out in sixth place.

Two substitutions followed as Ram Vaswani replaced Joe Beevers for Great Britain and Antonio Esfandiari replaced Phil Laak for the USA. The GB Team plan backfired immediately when Holland's Van Hoof won a big pot against Vaswani to take the chip lead for the Dutch. Three nations had to make their compulsory first substitution at the end of level Three – the new players introduced were:

Mads Andersen ( DEN )
Captain Bo Sehlstedt ( SWE )
Thierry Van Den Berg ( HOL )

Great Britain decided to make their second substitution at this stage replacing Vaswani with John Kabbaj.

The USA got themselves right back into the final when Esfandiari's A8 beat Sehlstedt's 77 to leave Sweden in trouble. Then Sehlstedt replaced himself with Johan Storakers. At the end of the programme, Great Britain held a slender chip lead but all remaining five nations had a fighting chance of lifting the trophy.
