The play was surprisingly cagey early on with so many aggressive players at the table. Germany's Eddy Scharf was the first to depart when his pocket Kings were beaten by Williamson's 2 pairs. Then Bo Sehlstedt mistimed an all-in bluff and was eliminated by Great Britain's Ram Vaswani who held QQ. The Dane Lars Bonding looked certain to be the next player out but survived a couple of all-ins to stay in. It was Marcel Luske who departed next when he was beaten by Robert Williamson. Bonding's luck couldn't last for ever and he eventually succumbed to Vaswani for a credible third place. This left Vaswani heads-up with Williamson. The USA captain began the battle with a deficit to make up but with strong play and one outstanding bluff in particular, he prevailed to earn his team a vital 16 points. Vaswani's second place left the GB Team with a massive chip lead to take to the final table.
