Poker Nations Cup - Programme 1 Match Report

Programme 1

National pride and points were at stake as the six players took their places and the Poker Nations Cup began.

With barely a hand without a raised flop, the table was in aggressive mood, rarely seeing the turn card let alone the river.

The first casualty was Germany's Benjamin Kang. Going all in with Q9, he lost out to Team USA's Kevin O'Donnell who doubled up with his AQ on the flop.

Next to go was a stunned O'Donnell who came unstuck himself after some impressive play. Following a poor run of cards he went all in against Team Holland's Arthur van der Meeren who hit a straight on the river.

However, Holland's run of good fortune was about to run out. Van der Meeren was winning the pot with a solid game but lost out to Denmark's captain Theo Jorgensen. His two pairs on the river saw the Dutchman exit with just four points for his country.

The Dane soon followed. Playing a solid captain's game with some strong plays and great escapes Jorgensen walked after calling Team Great Britain's two pairs. It was left to Team Great Britain's Paul Gardner and Sweden's Anders Henriksson to contest the heads up.

After a hugely exciting first heat the online specialist from Bristol's AQ out drew the Swede's AK on the flop. A fantastic start for last year's champions who lead the event with the maximum sixteen points.
