Phoenix Nights
Jerry ‘St Clair’ Dignan aka The Saint
Jerry ‘St Clair’ Dignan aka The Saint

Since winning Talent Trek in ’92, Jerry ‘The Saint’ Sinclair’s dreams of stardom have slowly shrivelled and died, and it’s pretty much all down to one man – Brian Potter.

The bright-eyed compere without compare of The Neptune has slowly fallen apart with each new setback, to become the broken, drug-raddled hypochondriac of The Phoenix, and it’s no coincidence his increasing paranoia can be mysteriously linked to Brian’s plans to put the club back on the map.

Jerry has to work in Asda singing about black bin bags and corned beef after the club burns down, his weekly Free and Easy night gets double-booked for a pub quiz, his Alternative Comedy night tragically goes awry, he has to dress up as berry for the official re-opening of the club, and he has to cancel a job on the cruise liners and pretend he’s dying after Brian tells the committee he’s got terminal cancer to secure the latest Talent Trek finals.

Still, The Phoenix is his Las Vegas, and it’s no surprise he’s in showbiz as Jerry comes from a very musical background; His dad played bugle in the Boys Brigade band, and his Auntie Reenie played the organ at The Apollo.
