Loan manager Daryl becomes Mark's new best friend after they bond over a love of history during a working Saturday. The two embark on a series of childish office pranks and after a night out drinking, Daryl throws a brick through what he believes to be Jeff's window (on Mark's behalf). They also share a love of Top Gear, as Daryl declares: "Clarkson knows. People like fast cars, they like females with big boobies and they don't want the Euro."

Mark joins Daryl in his hobby of Second World War reenactment, but becomes concerned when the Nazi views he's spouting appear to be more than just 'getting into the role'. After an ignorant comment made to Johnson at a team building meal, Mark ends their friendship
However, Daryl is required to play cor anglais on the track Jeremy has been commissioned to record, so their friendship has to be rekindled, but Mark uses the talkback facility in the studio control booth to confront him on his racist views. Daryl responds with the immortal words: "f**k off, thought police!"
