Hillary and the Democrats on Hollyoaks

Who says Hollyoaks doesn’t support up-and-coming talent? Way back in May Hollyoaks invited three local Liverpool bands the chance of a lifetime to perform at the infamous HCC music festival. Never heard of it? Well, that’s because it’s not airing until tonight’s episode!

Local indie pop bands Hillary and the Democrats, Fly With Vampires and goFASTER>>> are set to feature in ‘Rock the SU Bar’, the music festival that will span the next two episodes of Hollyoaks. We caught up with Hillary and the Democrats for a little chat about their first onscreen performance.

What scenes were you in?
There was an SU Bar festival going on called ‘Rock the SU Bar’ and basically they’re just watching the bands and Rhys is having a bit of banter with Hayley wherein they’re just playing practical jokes on one another. It’s a bit flirty.

What did you sing?
We sang two songs. A fast one and a slower one. The first one was ‘If I Were the President’. That was released as a download single on Filthy Little Angels Records. And the second one is called ‘Distracted in the Bibliotheque’ which was also released on Filthy Little Angels’ Valentine’s Day compilation album, if you want to download it.

Did you have to mime?
Yeah, we had to mime all of it. When the music’s playing, you can mime easily enough, but when they cut the music, you have to carry on miming. We had to keep looking at each other to make sure we were all going in time with our miming. It was a bit confusing, but it was alright.

Did you enjoy performing for the cast and all the extras?
Yeah, it was good. They were getting into it, had a little dance and that. We had fake beer on the go. It’s a shame it wasn’t real because it was bloody boiling down there with all the lighting!
