Melissa Walton interview

We met up with Melissa Walton, who plays HOLLYOAKS' first stripper, Loretta.
Tell us a bit about Loretta...
She's a really down to earth girl, really lovely, really sweet and she works as a stripper but she thinks nothing of it. It really doesn't matter to her. She's very much of the opinion 'this is what I do, it's not who I am' and if anyone tries to challenge her then she's just up front about it. She doesn't really care as she makes good money from it and she enjoys it.
She goes very against the typical stereotype of a stripper doesn't she? Yeah, she has all these little hobbies and she loves bird watching, she's really quite sweet.
The fans on the Hollyoaks message board have been hoping Loretta would return. How do you feel about that? Were you surprised by the reception she got?
I was just ever so pleased, it just feels so lovely to know that people are enjoying watching you and that they like the character and where you are going with it.
Was it very uncomfortable to play a stripper in Hollyoaks Later?
Do you know what, it's been alright really. Before I filmed the scenes where I had to get a little bit naked I went into some strip clubs and had some lap dances. One night I went and I took a pair of French knickers, a bra and some heels, and just had a walk around to get a feel for it! It's easy to see how you have these girls that live totally different lives at night and then are a different person through the day.
When I first went for the audition and I heard that the characters name was Loretta, I thought that it sounded like a stripper name and I thought that would be the twist.
