Jake Hendriks (Father Kieron Hobbs)

Jake Hendriks interview part 2: Warning contains spoilers!

We know that Jake Hendriks (Kieron) is leaving HOLLYOAKS, but in the second part of our interview we chat to Jake about why and how his character leaves, and what it was like to film these scenes...

This week Kieron come up against Niall as he finds out that Niall is in fact Myra's long lost son. Niall secretly spikes Kieron's drink before watching him die and making it seem like suicide!

Kieron's death plays a big part in both the John Paul storyline and Niall's revenge. Did you feel a lot of pressure to get it right as a lot depended on it?
Kind of, yeah. There's something about stunt scenes, or death scenes, or fight scenes... or even sex scenes, they are kind of seen as high points of drama. They are crowd pullers and crowd pleasers and there is a lot of attention given to them and for that reason I didn't want it to be bad. It was really well written so I felt it was up to me not to mess it up!

How did you decide to play your death scenes?
I tried to make it as still and undramatic as possible, I thought it would be quite an interesting choice. This character is a listener and I thought let's do that since hopefully you don't see that too often.

Some of the fans think that they have changed the HOLLYOAKS producers' minds about killing Father Kieron because they petitioned on the Forum. Do you think Kieron's death is going to be a shock to the fans?
I heard that there was a petition saying 'Save Father Kieron' and then statements were released saying that they were going to keep me on, so yeah I think they will be surprised. It's nice though because the producers did have a meeting about the possibility of keeping me on but in the end the storyline just wouldn't have worked. I'm actually really glad with way that it worked out because of this McDean thing. This way I get all the sympathy and everyone gets their happy ending too.
