Hollyoaks
ANDY MOSS
How did you feel about playing a character involved in an incest storyline?
Well Rhys obviously had his storyline revealing his real dad so I had an idea something like this could happen. When I was told I thought it was a good thing because any storyline that's meaty and you know you can really work on is exciting. Obviously I had a few reservations but it's brilliant, yeah.

What is it like working with Sinead Moynihan and doing your on screen kisses?
The very first day we filmed together we had a bed scene so we'd not even really met and on our first scene we had to be naked in bed! Once you've got passed that there's not really much you can be embarrassed about. It's great working with Sinead she's a great girl.

Do you think Rhys and Sarah will get back together in the future?
Funny you should mention that because there's some stuff we are shooting at the moment where it looks possible something could happen between them. It could just be ploy for Rhys to get over Beth so I'm not sure how that's going to pan out. I think Rhys will always love Sarah so we'll have to see how that works out.

Since being in HOLLYOAKS’ which storyline have you enjoyed the most?
The anorexia storyline was amazing, it was great to be working with the family everyday. The Ashworth's are established now and a big part of HOLLYOAKS so it was exciting to be in together everyday with such a good storyline. Emma Rigby is also such a fantastic, talented, clever girl.

Which storyline have you found the most difficult to portray?
This current incest storyline definitely because obviously never kissed with sister before! I only had reference points from stories I've heard and similar storyline's from other shows. This storyline is more about what's not said because obviously no one knows about them so mostly it's about the looks between us because it's a secret. It really was a challenge at first but once we got into it, it worked out fine.

If you could write a storyline for Rhys what would it be?
I'd have Rhys go on holiday and get to take the crew with him. Then they'd film somewhere hot and exotic, plenty of drinks and lot's of gorgeous girls. I think that sounds like a good idea!

Which scene has been the most embarrassing for you since you started?
In the early days I did a late night HOLLYOAKS and we were all running around in underwear and me and Anthony Quinlan were in boxer shorts! They filmed a shot where we were in front of camera and it shot past us and the front of our boxer shorts! I don't think you can do a good job when you're embarrassed so nothing embarrasses me anymore. They've seen me crying, crawling on floor, half naked, nothing they do could embarrass me now. Oh no, I hope they don’t take that as some sort of challenge.

Would you prefer to see Rhys settle down or continue to be a player?
When Rhys first met Beth he decided he was going to settle down and leave his player days behind him. He fell in love with this girl and if it hadn't turned out that she was his sister I think he'd have settled down. As for playing Rhys obviously it's more fun to do if he's a bad lad.

What do you think Rhys will be doing in five years time?
I hope he'll have done something with his music. Maybe found girl of his dreams and then they can pack up and go on tour.

How do you switch off from the emotions you go through at work when you get home?
> It's such a hard schedule I always seem to be in work so switching off is quite important. At end of the day we always go across the road to the pub where we unwind and chat about the day. We're only there for half an hour and some of us have our tea. Then when I'm driving down the motorway I have a little sing for half an hour. Then I'm ready for the next day.

Is it hard to turn the tears on in emotional scenes?< br/> It depends on how the scenes have been filmed because soaps tend to shoot a lot of scenes out of sequence because for all sorts of reasons it can't be done all in one go. If this happens it's hard and I prefer scenes like the anorexia ones as we filmed them all together and because Emma's performance was so dramatic you couldn't help but feel for her. In cases like that it's easy for your eyes to fill up. If you're working with someone who can give you that sort of performance then it's a piece of cake.

How long is a typical day on set and how many days a week do you work?
Basically I'm in forever! I'm even doing Saturday and Sunday at the minutes which is what happens when you are involved in a big storyline. Because it's coming up to Christmas we do a thing called double ups where we film extra episodes so we can have a longer break at Christmas so it's worth it. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

Rhys is one of the best loved characters on the show but is he as fun to play as he is to watch?
Yeah he is a brilliant character. I come in in the morning and usually Rhys has a scene where he's moody so it's easy to come in and put my miserable face on at 7am! Then we'll do another shoot in the afternoon with lot's of extras and a live band in the SU Bar. Rhys has his fingers in a lot of pies so it never gets boring! There are lots of different levels to him and he's quite a complex character.

You’re character seems to be a bit of a ladies man, do you get girls coming up to you in the street?
Yeah I do. I wear a hat and glasses so I always find it amazing when people still recognise me. I'll be doing my shopping and four girls will be following around town, I'll turn around and say "I can see you". Then we'll have a chat for a few minutes which is always great.

What type of girl do you go for?
I like petite girls. They have to be down to earth, that's very important, have a lovely personality and generally a nice girl.

Are you as much of an Indie fan as Rhys is and who are your favourite bands?
Oooh good question. Rhys started out as mod rocker and I've sneakily changed him grungy and a bit skater boy, that's more what I like. I like American rock bands like Incubus, Deftones, Pearl Jam and Nirvana. So I like rock not indie.

What would you like to do in the future?
Hopefully go on to do other things I always see myself acting and don’t think I'll be good at any other job. I'd love to work on an American drama, I love the Sopranos. I like Wire in blood and one off dramas too. With a drama you know the start, middle and end so you could put some really good work into it. With a soap you never know what's coming next.

How did you get into acting?
I went to a local stage school for ten years from about the age of nine, which helped me realise what I wanted to do. I then went to a college that catered for that field and I was going to university when I got my job on HOLLYOAKS.

Who are your closest friends at work?
Obviously Anthony Quinlan as we work so close together. We're almost like brothers now, finishing each others sentences off, it's brilliant. Kieran Richardson who plays Ste Hay is also a good friend. Then of course I’ve worked with Loui Batley since the beginning and all of Ashworths so I'm close to them too.

Rhys plays the drums on the show, can you play any instruments?
I can strum a few songs on the guitar and play a few beats on drums. Mainly I sing and I was in band in Manchester who supported Wheatus about five years ago which was the highlight of my musical days. Hopefully one day I will get back to music, I love it as much as acting. Have a look out for my old band on the internet, Hiatus.

If you weren’t Rhys, which other HOLLYOAKS' character would you like to be?
I think it would have to be Warren Fox, you could really get your teeth into a character like that. He gets so many great storylines and then I’d be hard too!

Have you ever or are you going out with any of the cast?
No, I've never dated a co-star ever. They are all lovely girls but don’t think I could do the work/relationship thing. Some people do and it works fine but it would drive me insane.

How long are you planning on staying on HOLLYOAKS?
I have no plans to leave at the minute, I love working here the people are great. It sounds cheesy and clichéd but we are just like one big family. I will be here as long as they want me.
