Meet The Freshers: Beth Kingston
Monday 21 September
In the first part of ‘Meet The Freshers’, our feature in which we introduce you to the newest students at the HCC, we have a chat with Beth Kingston. Beth talks to us about how she discovered she landed the part of India live on T4, as well some rather embarrassing storylines. Read on…
Explain to the Hollyoaks readers out there how you got the part of India?
I applied online via a big open audition called ‘Desperately Seeking’ and I had to send off a video of myself doing a monologue. A few days later I received a phone call saying I got down to the last 25 and I had to go up to Liverpool to audition on set. That day I was on set auditioning for about 12 hours before the 25 were cut down to the final three. How did you find out you got the role?
The winner was announced on T4. Everyone said I looked really calm, but they couldn’t see my hands, which were shaking behind my back! People presumed I knew who the winner was before it was announced on TV, but I didn’t. I knew I was live on TV, so I didn’t want to burst into tears, but I was absolutely chuffed! I’d just finished uni and had nothing planned, so I needed the role!Is it true that the next day you had to film your first scenes?
Well, the next I had to go to Radio 1 to do an interview, which was so surreal. On the way there the taxi driver got us lost, so I ended up running to get there on time! The day after that I had to go straight up to Liverpool. I didn’t start filming straight away, I just had a tour of the set and watched some of the filming and then I started filming at the end of the week.
The Monday after the Radio One interview I went to the Inside Soap Awards launch. I was there in my denim skirt and flip flops because everyone had said to me it was a really casual event and I didn’t have any make-up on either. I felt so self-conscious, especially as it was the first time I’d had the paparazzi taking photos of me.
