A Week In The Life... Of A Storyliner
Friday 27 March
Over this week we've been seeing what Hollyoaks storyliner Lib Murray gets up to as she takes in conferences, Hollyoaks student storylines and meetings in the SU Bar.
I'm Lib Murray and I'm a storyliner. Over a four week block, the five storyliners (including myself) work with the story editor and the writers. We come up with story ideas for the show, then we'll go away and write it up into individual episodes. That document will then be passed back to the writer for them to write the actual script of the episode.
In each Hollyoaks episode, there's what we call an A story, a B story, a C story and a D story. The A story is the main driving story that you have a cliffhanger from. The B story is emotionally driven and has a hook on at the end (the cliffhanger), but it's not as big as the A story. The C and the D story are the lighter comedy stories, which I enjoy writing the most. Whether it's an A story or a D story they've still got to follow pretty much the same story structure. For example, if a character starts off happy, then they should end up sad, which sounds rather simplistic , but they should always end up the opposite to where they started - they go on a little journey. That's basically our job, a lot of writing. You get to be very creative, which is why I like it, and we're encouraged to come up with as many story ideas as possible to try and get them into the show.
