A Week In The Life... Of A Production Secretary
Friday 20 March
Thursday
Jaki: After all the changes to the call sheets yesterday, only one afternoon shoot changed completely. Little bitty things happened, they said, "We don't need the babies," so we cancelled them and 6:50pm comes and they say, "We need the babies." You just deal with it. Sometimes you think it's plain sailing and you can see the door, but then something else happens and another problem is found.
Today I'm covering as resource coordinator and I'm currently trying to crew up for next week. All the shoots and scenes that were dropped over the week have got to go somewhere, so we have got five pick-up shoots next week (one on everyday) which I'm trying to crew up now. So we have to get freelancers in or staff on overtime, which means making the calls. As a resource coordinator you also have to deal with crew sickness - we've had a couple of people off, which has been sorted. Tomorrow as production secretary we have to ring the entire cast and let them know their schedule for the following week. We've got to phone all the new people, the new cast who are coming up, the sundries and get hotels sorted out for them. Friday's the big day. I've just had my head buried in a roster all day today to be honest, so hopefully I can get loads done today so tomorrow's not as bad.
