Meet The Freshers: Amy Yamakazi
Thursday 1 October
Previously in our 'Meet The Freshers' feature we've introduced you to Beth Kingston, who plays ditzy, posh student India, and we had a natter with Elliot James Langridge, the playboy history of art undergraduate Dave. In the last part of our new HCC student meet and greet, we welcome Amy Yamakazi who plays Lydia's ex, Charlotte...
Charlotte's a student. What's she studying?
She's studying psychology. She likes analysing and reading people. She thinks she's quite good at sensing other people's feelings and emotions.
Is Charlotte anything like you?
A little bit. I did psychology A-level and I do have an interest in how people interact. There are a few similar things between her and I in terms of things we're interested in.
Does Charlotte share the same fashion sense as you?
I wish I had the balls to dress like Charlotte! There are a few items of her clothing that I've considered wearing myself, but I wouldn't wear them all put together like she does. I don't wear as much jewellery as she does either. She wears wacky rings with bunny rabbits on, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, then her make-up. I do appreciate her wardrobe, but in real life I don't think I'd be brave enough to wear such garish outfits to go out in.
Have you been to university? If so, what did you study?
Yes, I got a degree in creative writing. I did modules in journalism, script writing, prose, poetry, basically any kind of job that involved writing creatively. During my spare time at uni I acted in my friends' plays and stuff, but I didn't really discover until after uni that acting would be something that I'd really pursue. Although I had acted before uni, I thought writing would be the direction my career went in, but then Hollyoaks came along.
What tips would you give to people setting off for their first year in uni?
Be very open minded and prepare yourself for absolutely anything. You've got to bear in mind that everyone's in the same position, everyone's really new. Be yourself or you’ll be found out. I loved uni! It rocked!
What was your favourite student-y meal to cook up?
I make quite a good tofu stir-fry. I know some people might think that's rank, but it's really nice and cheap and easy.
