Darren's horrified to discover Jack in such a state - it's only hit him now exactly how low his dad has fallen. As Jack's despair comes flooding out, Darren's appalled by his wish to die and demands that he tells him how many tablets he's taken. Relief floods Darren when Jack admits he's barely taken any and he beseeches Jack to talk to him. Jack recalls how the months of growing debt have been strangling him, and that he could see no way out of this mess other than to take his own life. The enormity of this hits Darren hard, which gives him the courage to tell Jack the truth about the hundred grand he had in his hands, yet gambled away so easily. As Jack computes this information, a cold fury envelops him and the two clash, with all the turbulence of the past years spurting out. As father and son talk honestly, they reach an understanding and Darren insists that Jack must promise that he'll never try and kill himself again. Galvanised into action, Darren insists he'll get them out of this mess. Standing in the car park, surveying their surroundings, Darren notices someone behind the bins. Upon taking a closer look, they both discover a body and Jack realises that the man's long dead. Darren recognises him as someone who's been hanging round the pub recently, and calls for an ambulance. As the situation sinks in with Darren, he has an idea and suggests to Jack that they should swap the bodies and claim that Jack's dead, and then they could claim his life insurance. Reluctantly agreeing, Jack begs Darren to inform Frankie of their plans as Jack runs inside to pack his bags while Darren waits for the ambulance to arrive...

Nancy and Russ realise they can't go out partying and leave Newt alone. Since he's arrived, he's made no attempt to communicate with either of them. Checking on Newt, Nancy suggests he gets some sleep and closes the bedroom door - only to reveal Eli. Eli continues to ramp up Newt's paranoia and insists that Nancy and Russ are on Jack's side and part of the conspiracy to get rid of him - permanently. Attempting to leave the flat, Newt's way is barred by a tipsy Russ and Nancy, who are busy partying. Nancy explains it's best to stay in tonight as Jack thinks he'll be safe in their flat. Back in his room, Eli again fuels Newt's paranoia by insisting he's practically a prisoner until Jack decides what to do with him. Nancy and Russ continue to bond as they open up to each other, while in the bedroom, Eli insists that Newt needs to protect himself and kill Jack! As Nancy and Russ finally succumb to sleep, Newt takes the opportunity to escape from the flat. Arriving at the Dog, Newt runs into Darren who's frantically trying to hold it all together. With the ambulance siren growing closer, Darren's plans are in jeopardy when Newt discovers the body... however, he terrifies Newt into fleeing the scene and Jack is left to make his escape from Hollyoaks...
