It's the day of Max's funeral and Steph prepares to bury her husband. Cindy and Mandy support an emotional Angela, while O.B helps Tom to get ready. With everyone nervous, Tom reveals that he doesn't want to go to the funeral as he doesn't want to say goodbye. O.B. understands and admits that he doesn’t want to go either and they agree to tell Steph together. Cindy's horrified that Tom won't be going to his own brother's funeral but Steph kindly lets them stay...

As the mourners gather in the Village, Frankie worries for Steph as she catches sight of the hearse for the first time. With her mother for support Steph insists she's strong enough to cope as the funeral procession including Darren, Jack, Tony and Dom escort Max Cunningham out of Hollyoaks Village for the final time...

While the Funeral service takes place at the church, the Village remains peaceful and quiet as O.B. takes Tom for a walk. Tom loves being with O.B. but worries that he's enjoying himself too much on the day of Max's funeral. O.B. insists that it's okay to laugh, and it's what Max would have wanted. O.B. reveals to Tom that he struggled to write Max's eulogy and thinks they should perhaps read a little bit of it in the Village, just the two of them. Tom agrees and O.B. begins to remember the life and times of his best mate...

Meanwhile, at the church Steph bravely reads out O.B.'s eulogy for Max - a best friend, brother and husband to those he loved. The congregation are moved, but Darren cringes as Steph reveals she's going to finish the service with a song. With a faltering, but beautiful voice, Steph says goodbye to Max in her own special way... as back in the Village, O.B. and Tom do the same...

With the service over, O.B joins Mandy and Tony as they lament on the passing of their good friend. O.B takes Tom home and they decide to watch an old video of Max messing about. Sad that Max has gone, Tom decides he now knows who he wants to look after him - O.B. Unprepared for Tom's request, O.B. makes a promise that he'll never leave Tom...
