Tina, having overheard Tony's conversation with Mandy, runs off only to be mugged by a desperate Fletch but is saved by Niall. Niall is inconsolable at having killed Max and at Steph's cutting rejection of him. Tina, grateful to Niall, tells him that she is considering putting the baby up for adoption rather that give it to a loveless Tony and Jacqui. Niall is secretly incensed and tries to talk her round, but after another fruitless visit to Steph he slips further into depression. Tina decides to call Jacqui to tell her that she won't be getting the baby but just as she is about to break the news, a shadowy Niall appears behind her and launches her down the city steps.

Tony is struggling to come to terms with Max's death leaving Jacqui unsure how to act around him. At the same time Tina is pushing her for decisions about the birth of her baby so when Mandy turns up at their doorstep in tears, Jacqui, in spite of herself, does the right thing and suggests that she take Tony out for a walk and a chat. Whilst with Mandy, Tony has time to reflect on the loss of their child and confesses to Mandy that he has major reservations about the surrogacy of their child by Tina. Unfortunately he is overheard by a distraught Tina. Tony begins to realise what really matters in his life and so cooks Jacqui a romantic dinner in Il Gnosh, pledging to do whatever he can for her when the baby comes. Just as they are about to sit down Jacqui receives a desperate phone call from Tina...

Steph, totally distraught and clearly in shock, refuses to take off her wedding dress or leave the flat. OB tries to offer solace to her but he too is devastated. As they begin to reminisce, Steph realises that she didn't really know all that much about her dead husband. It only serves to exacerbate her grief so she decides to move back in to The Dog with her family. O.B., in a heady mix of grief and fury, tries to stop her, reminding her that Tom is her responsibility now, but she won't listen and so it falls to a chance visit from Kieron to help her confront her broken heart and her new responsibilities.

Kris and Elliot are tired of living in squalor and whilst out, avoiding their own home, they meet Leila, a new art student, looking for a place to live. They are intrigued by her scattiness but more importantly they see the opportunity to have a flatmate who can cook and clean so they invite her to move in. When Leila does move in they begin to realise that she might not be the domestic goddess she had professed to be.
