Josh has had a troubled time, having been dumped by Amy for Ste, as well as his recent family troubles. Josh has become alienated from his friends Fletch and Sasha since they began experimenting with hard drugs, and has started a band with his brother Rhys and their friend Gilly - The Dirty Diegos.

Josh is Sonny's first major TV role, having previously had smaller parts in Heartbeat and Cold Feet.
