Darren's cut a lonely figure in the village for a while now, making more enemies than friends with his constant scheming and his dangerous gambling habit. Most recently Darren has got both himself and his dad Jack into a dangerous situation as he persuaded Jack to fake his own death for insurance money. Will they get away with it?

Ashley re-joined the cast in 2003, having left briefly for a career in pop band All Stars.
