DEVON MALCOLM ON NELSON MANDELA WEARING THE SHIRT OF THE ONCE REVILED SPRINGBOKS AT THE 1995 RUGBY WORLD CUP FINAL
The Springboks had been hated by many black South Africans. Think about it. You can imagine - rugby in South Africa, a massive following of white supporters. What the president did he turned up to the World Cup Final in Francois Pienaar's number six shirt. I mean that was so touching. I don't know if you can remember but the crowd started chanting "Nelson, Nelson, Nelson." And his willingness to forgive and move on. That was just quite incredible. You know, to do a thing like that. For anybody to go through all that he did with no recrimination - thinking: "OK let's look to the future. We've all got to be treated properly. We all have a part to play in South Africa." How anybody can have that massive willingness for forgiveness, forgiveness to move on is quite beyond me. He's an incredible man.
