THE 100 GREATEST No.1 SINGLES

Classic pop is about much more than just music. It's about memories and emotions. From adolescent angst to music to make love to; from dirty dancing to divorcee discos music provides the soundtrack to our lives.

This programme charted the songs and artists that made up that soundtrack. From one to 100, you the voting public had your say as to which songs mean the most to you.

And here's a few reasons why:

For Cathy Richmond of Belfast, Boyzone's No Matter What is the song which roused the fading heartbeat of her ailing unborn child and pulled him through again when he was born four month's premature. Baby Ryan's not a baby any longer. Mother and son are still big fans.

It was just a humdrum day in the office for Mancunian recording studio secretary Cathy Redfearn until 10cc's Graham Gouldman decided what he needed to finish off his epic love song I'm Not in Love was a woman with a nice telephone voice to breathily whisper "Big Boys don't cry" in the middle eight.

And spare a thought for the Whitney Houston fan who ended up in prison as a noise nuisance because she couldn't stop playing I Will Always Love You
