100 GREATEST CHRISTMAS MOMENTS

1-25 | 26-50 | 51-75 | 76-100 | 101-120
  1. Only Fools and Horses - Christmas Episodes (Various)
After a three-year hiatus, the eighties favourite returned at Christmas 1996 with a three part story which saw a staggering 24.35 million people tuning in to watch the Trotters strike it rich.

  2. The Osbournes - A Very Ozzy Christmas (2003)
With approximately 78 vulgarities omitted for television broadcast, Christmas day in the parallel universe that is life with the Osbourne family.

  3. The Paul Daniels Christmas Show (Various)
There had been TV Christmas magic shows since the 1940s, but one of the most mystifying illusions ever was performed by Paul Daniels in one of his many 1980s Christmas specials. Taking a small kettle, he proceeded to pour dozens of different drinks on demand for his volunteers and members of the audience.

  4. The Pogues - Fairytale of New York (1987)
Funny, beautiful and the best Christmas record never to reach number one - the song's wistful beginning lures the unwitting listener into the love-hate world of Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MacColl as a pair of bums in New York.

  5. Pop Goes Christmas (1982)
Eighties pop hell as David Essex, Mari Wilson, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Shakin' Stevens, The Nolans, Toto Coelo, Musical Youth and Toyah perform their personal choice of Christmas classic, adapted to his or her individual style with accompanying realistic blizzard effects.

  6. Porridge - No Way Out (1975)
Prison behind bars sees an outbreak of hearty carol singing intended to drown out the noise of an escape tunnel being dug while Fletcher attempts to land himself in the prison infirmary for Christmas.

  7. Posh and Becks' Big Impression (2003)
Their most ambitious outing yet, as McGowan and Ancona retell the story of The Beckhams' move to Madrid. The show rated more than the genuine documentary about the couple shown during that same Christmas period.

  8. The Queen's Speech (Various)
The only constant British TV tradition was first televised in 1957. Probably the most famous is the 1992 'annus horribilus' speech detailing regal sorrow at a year which saw the break-up of two family marriages, one divorce, and the fire at Windsor Castle. The bad year continued during the run up to the big day as The Sun printed leaked details of the speech.

  9. Rainbow - Christmas Special (1987)
Geoffrey and his fluffy friends stage the Rainbow Christmas Pantomime featuring Dame Geoffrey, Georgie Porgie, Bungle as the wicked baron and Zippy as little Tommy Tucker.

  10. Rising Damp - Christmas Special (1976)
While Rigsby has spent Christmas alone again with just his mistletoe for company, Alan and Philip are in for a surprise when they both bring back girlfriends expecting to find the place empty.

  11. Robbie the Reindeer - Hooves of Fire (1999)
Star-packed made-for-TV animated special about the accident-prone son of Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer and his struggles to live up to his famous father.

  12. Rolf Harris at Christmas (Various)
For more than thirty years Rolf has managed to get onto our Christmas screens in many different guises, whether it's nursing sick possums, introducing favourite cartoon clips or chalking up his own Christmas number one with Mrs Thatcher's favourite tune Two Little Boys.

  13. The Royle Family - Christmas Special (1999)
The action radically moves from the sitting room to the bathroom as Denise prepares to go into labour and Jim brings the nation's hankies out as he remembers the first time he saw Denise as a baby.

  14. St. Winifred's School Choir - There's No One Quite Like Grandma (1980)
Come on, it's Christmas! Let the little children sing! Enough record buyers were sufficiently entranced (mass-hypnotised?) to make this one of the oddest ever Christmas number ones. The kids relished their pink-clad moment in the limelight, but long term showbiz careers were largely not forthcoming, with the exception of Sally Lindsay who's now Rover's Return barmaid Shelley.

  15. That's Christmas - Sez Les (1973)
One-liners, slapstick and a pianistic mangling of Good King Wenceslaus, as Les Dawson is given a Christmas wish which transforms him from beer swilling slob in a vest into the sophisticated(ish) host of his own Christmas TV show.

  16. Shooting Stars - Christmas Special (2002)
Hugh Laurie, Anthea Turner and Robin Gibb are star guests in this seasonal special of the cult game show, which had first seen the light of day on the 1993 Reeves and Mortimer Christmas extravaganza.

  17. The Simpsons - Christmas Episodes (Various)
The first full length slice of Springfield life was a 1989 Christmas special and since then seasonal shows have seen sinister toy fads, cancelled Yuletide bonuses and a mysterious Christmas thief, not to mention guest stars like Richard Gere and Tim Robbins.

  18. Slade - Merry Christmas Everybody (1973)
The most popular British Christmas song ever from the most successful British chart group of the 1970s. A firm festive favourite from the moment it sold 300,000 copies on the day it was released.

  19. Smack the Pony - Christmas Special (2002)
Festive edition of the Emmy-winning sketch show, providing the customary mix of bizarre video dating tapes and sketches about wearing competitively visible G-strings in the office. It climaxes with their musical take on the Nativity, including a nightclub called Bethlehem with a strict door policy and the difficulties of carrying heavy Christmas shopping while pregnant.

  20. The Snowman (1982)
The heart-warming short film famous for its theme tune, We're Walking in the Air. It gave Aled Jones a top five hit, even though it was not him singing on the show (his single was released after recording a version of the tune for a toy shop ad).

  21. Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em - Jessica's first Christmas (1974)
A Spencer classic - Frank plays the Angel Gabriel in Jessica's nativity play and ends up requiring helicopter rescue.

  22. The Sound of Music (1965)
So what exactly is it that makes this musical an indispensable part of the Christmas schedules. The singing? The nuns? The Nazis? The matching home-made floral lederhosen?

  23. South Park - Mr Hankey the Christmas Poo (1999)
Considered by many to be the best Southpark episode ever made. The boys and all of the other South Park characters sing their own songs for the holidays and realise that Christmas is all about the presents.

  24. Spitting Image - Christmas Specials (Various)
The latex assassins didn't let something as soppy as Christmas get in the way of their lacerating satire. Highlights of their seasonal specials included John Major's shambolic Christmas panto and Christmas single Santa Claus is on the Dole.

  25. Stars in Their Eyes - Celebrity Christmas Special (2002)
The stand out, seasonal, all-star edition of the sound-a-like show pitted Boy George's glittery David Bowie against Frank Skinner's dapper Johnny Ray.
