Just click the stars (******) to reveal the answer to the questions

R01 - General Knowledge

Very close. Both contestants, true competitors, neither giving an inch, nor dropping a question. As devilish questions come singing out of The Questionner’s mouth.

Which religion is based on the teachings of Gautama Siddharta? ********
What name is given to a twentieth of a ream of paper? *****
What is the highest rank of officer in the British army? ***** *********

Both their trivia knowledge seems vast. They brush the questions aside. A few passes here and there and, in no time at all, they are 13 seconds a piece and struggling for dominance.

Suddenly, Michelle fluffs this Henry VIII question.

Which of Henry VIII's wives was the mother of Edward VI? **** *******

But manages to recover with a masterful reply to :

Which shade of brown takes its name from the Greek for cuttlefish? *****

Michael justs snatches victory but with a pitiful 2.14 second advantage. All to play for…

R02 - Numbers

Wow. Normally one contestant falls by the wayside in this the most brain blending of rounds. Not this time. Both Michael and Michelle are frozen to the spot, foreheads clenched with furious concentration, deliberating, deliberating, until finally spitting the answers out.

What is 8% of 1500? ***
How long is 22 feet 7 inches in inches? ***
How is 42 expressed in Roman numerals? ****

Michael looks worried even as he nudges slightly ahead. He looks as though he might clinch it. But then - a string of toughies! Sudddenly he’s lost 20 seconds. Michelle struggles to claw back but can’t quite make it.

Times up.

Michael walks back to his chair with just 5.13 to bring to the final. Michelle looks pleased. She’s not out of this yet.

R03 - Contemporary Knowledge

A collapse. Contemporary knowledge is often the great leveler. This time, Michelle gets leveled. Even a brief switch fight can’t pull her out of a spiral of wrong answers .

Which fictional coffee shop is the meeting place in the sitcom 'Friends'? ******* ****
In the Harry Potter stories, what sort of organisation is Gringotts? ****
In which city did Michael Jackson famously hold his baby over a balcony? ******
What is Tony Blair's Parliamentary constituency? **********

Michael bags 27.15. Michelle might just have lost her grand.

R04 - Words & Letters

Another collapse. But Michael this time. Wilting visibly under an assault of word meshes and consonant-counts, Michael looses 35 seconds before he can rally. Michelle holds her own, not giving an inch, until her opponent dies on his feet. Only then does she permit herself a smile at re-balancing the books with her 30.27 second win. The final will be tight.

Some questions from that round. See how you’d do:

Separate the author from his novel in this mesh: NCOONSTRROAMOD? ****** ********
Which word completes the first and begins the second in this puzzle: PUT _ _ _ PEE? ***
Which 'D' is the study of trees? **********

R05 - Combination Round

There’s just four seconds in it. Michael has 1.04.42 on his clock with two switches. Michelle 1.00.29 and no switches.

But it doesn’t go to play. Bang, bang. The questions sing out of the dark. Michelle
Struggles. It’s 24 seconds before she can get an answer.

Which singer-songwriter penned the song 'Mr Tambourine Man'? *** *****
What is the name of Britain's first female astronaut? ***** *******
What is the occupation of someone with MRCVS after their name? ********** *******

Michael casually switches himself out of danger as Michelle’s time leaks away. In the end, there’s nothing she can do. Michael clinches it. A tragedy.
