R01 - General Knowledge
Quite an opener. Both contestants look nervous as they step up to 'the ockey'. At first it's neck and neck.
The volcanic Mount Teide is a feature of which island? *******.
Deuterium and Tritium are isotopes of which odourless gas? *******.
Then Peter takes a big hit, missing three questions in a row, including, amazingly:

They become embroiled in a devastating switch fight. Peter comes off worse. Melanie wins with a convincing 38.80 on the timer. A disastrous start for Peter.
R02 - Numbers
Nerves get the better of both of them. The distinctive expression of someone in the Numbers round comes over their faces. You'll know that look if you see it.
Peter, clearly hassled by the clock, misses question after question, shaving close to the answers but not close enough.
234 divided by 13? **
16% of 300? **
What is the centigrade equivalent of 77 degrees Fahrenheit? **
Peter's mistakes save Melanie the trouble of having to answer more than one question. She ends the round with 30.29 left over. Things are not looking good for her opponent.
R03 - Contemporary Knowledge
This is more like it. Always a leveler, contemporary knowledge has them both struggling.
Who was appointed Shadow Secretary of Transport in July last year? *** *****.
The 'Cappucino Years' is the fourth installment on the diaries of which fictional character? ***** ****
What nationality is the conductor Frans Bruggen? ****.
Peter is very unlucky. He surges ahead after Mel B is battered from a flock of Questions From Hell (tm). Then - alack - trying to parry the return, he is unable to get a single question right. Which Labour MP was accused this year of receiving money from the Ba'ath party? ***** *****. Who finished as runner-up in the final of the 2002 Embassy World Snooker Championship? ***** ******. His time drains away. The round is lost.

Which TV presenter is an anagram of 'BORN INSANE? NO'? **** ******.
Which word completes and starts the following: 'MOLE___SIDE'? ****.
It's just not Peter's day. He finally gets his first answer with just 2.07 left on his clock. Melanie has to answer just one question to win with a 55.65 advantage. Crestfallen, Peter limps back to his seat. It's all over.
R05 - Combination Round
With Mel bringing a massive 2.55.46 into this round, a whitewash is expected. It is delivered in record time.
Which 1960 Elvis hit was sung to the tune of 'O Sole Mio'? *** ** ** *****.
In which country is the Mojave Desert? ******.
What name is given to an eagle chick? ******.
Peter chips a mere 4 seconds of Melanie's time before bowing out. He smarts at the defeat but allows himself a chuckle.
Mel, meanwhile, is the second women to make it through to the quarters. She is currently top seed with her mammoth 2.51.18 advantage. Nice one Mel.
