Now we all know about the quiz show, the major, his wife, and their friend. Here are some lesser known facts from the sordid affair.
The original plan had been to secrete four pagers set to vibrate mode on the major's person. The crew practised with them right until the night before but then backed out and went for the more primitive 'coughing' technique.
"I was leaning forward, glaring at Mr Whittock saying 'don't you dare, don't you dare'." Cougher Tecwen Whittock was fingered by another contestant that night, Graham Whitehurst, who observed him throughout the show. Whittock's defence was that he suffered from "dust allergy".
Whittock was also something of a failed quizzer having won the booby prize in Sale Of The Century, lost in the first round of 15-to-1, and squandered half his winnings on The People Versus.
Investigators poured over 192 coughs made by the audience during the recording. 36 came from Whittock's side of the studio, including the 19 "most suspicious and leading" coughs.
Mr Ingram claimed his military training had helped him to secure the million. "You never have enough resources in the army. You decide to limit the risks to achieve the mission. I looked at each of the answers, tried as best I could to delete answers that were too ridiculous and if I felt 80% confident or more on a particular answer, I would go for it." The army has a phrase for this: "chinny reckon".
The judge's summing up was delayed for a day after a juror had a coughing fit.
