Episode 6: Cassidy’s Mother

Cassidy has discovered the pact between John and Beth and is furious but John has no time to remedy the situation as the Avalon Basin decision is imminent and he has arranged a jolly to entertain the Planning Committee and Councillors. Cassidy resents not being invited but her attention is soon diverted when her drug addict Mother turns up at Whiteoaks. Neither Darren nor John connect the strung-out woman with Cassidy and as soon as they have gone she heads into town to pursue her Mother. Coll steps in to help Cassidy and the two run her Mother home to the Manchester sink estate we glimpsed in episode one.
As they leave the estate they run into Donna who has come with Justin to pick up her things en-route to Ray Borrigard’s mansion where she is now living full time. Cassidy and Coll join them there and a party develops in which Cassidy allows Coll to sleep with her.

On the advice of lawyers following the crash Lauren is in rehab. She is hostile toward the nurses, the regime and Bo Blonde and her other fellow patients. But she is shaken to the core when her Mother Beth visits and tells her she is washing her hands of her daughter. Later in a group session she has a break through and confesses that she was partly responsible for Russell’s death.

John misses out on most of the night’s fun when he gets a call to inform him Naomi has gone a.w.o.l. On a hunch John goes to the site of the Redstart Flats in which Naomi’s Father lost his life in the fire and finds the girl there. He finds himself confessing to Naomi that he was there the night of the fire. Whilst he is distracted by Naomi Darren strikes up an understanding with Haq who is warmer toward him than toward John. John arrives at the boxing to discover that Darren has sorted out a deal with Haq. Chastened by his experience with Naomi John feels contrite about how he treated Cassidy and he returns home resolved to renege on his pact with Beth and marry her at the earliest opportunity.
