Episode 2: The Funeral
Beth visits her father in Manchester only to find he has died in his armchair. John arrives to support her and they reflect on the area where they both grew up. Beth thinks it has "gone to the dogs," and resolves not to leave her father's remains in the dilapidated local cemetery but to scatter his ashes on the golf course in Cheshire. Meanwhile, Cassidy's car is towed by bailiffs as John's creditors circle. John, unable to confess that he now has no money, claims it was the garage. As they share the loss, John and Beth soften towards each other, and she offers to use her cash to save him from bankruptcy. A reunion now looks a strong possibility. But at the funeral, Beth falls foul of Trinny Jamieson, local social doyen and Ladies' President of the Golf Club, who tells Beth she cannot scatter the ashes on the course. Beth blames this on John, who didn't renew her club membership. Justin steps in and accuses John of causing her distress. The two come to blows and the funeral breaks up.
Meanwhile Cassidy has worked out John's true financial situation and, fearing a return to poverty, decides to sell her jewellery.
