Documentaries - About We Are Together

We Are Together
First-time director Paul Taylor's experience as a volunteer in South Africa at an Agape orphanage formed the basis of this award-winning documentary.

Watch the film on Saturday 2 August, 7pm on Channel 4.

Filmed over three years, We Are Together tells the story of a group of children who use music to overcome hardship and loss. You can hear the music and buy the CD on the official We Are Together website (all proceeds will be donated to an education fund which serves the children in the film).

Whilst studying filmmaking, Paul was stationed at the orphanage (where most of the children have lost their parents to AIDS) as part of a volunteer programme.

His film tells the story of the place, and of the drive of the young singers and their teachers to make it to London for a series of concerts.

Awards for the film include: winner of the Audience Award - Edinburgh International Film Festival 2007, winner of the Audience Award - Tribeca Film Festival 2007, winner of the Special Jury Prize - Tribeca Film Festival 2007, winner of the International Documentary Association Awards 2007 and winner of the Grierson Award 2007.

The Channel 4 British Documentary Film Foundation (BRITDOC) helped this film to happen by providing production grants and mentoring advice.
